Around the holidays there is always a lot of advice floating around about making smart food choices and often the advice involves stating the obvious. i.e. "Choose the crudite over the bacon wrapped scallops." or "Pick a plain baked potatoes over a twice baked one."

But how about the choice between roasted turkey vs the deep fried variety? The choice may not be as clear as you might think.

The Nutritional Information for a 5.9 ounce serving fried turkey is 383 calories...21 grams (51%) fat.
The same amount of roasted turkey (sans skin) averages 322 calories and 16 grams of fat. Choosing one over the other won't have a significant impact on your diet. In fact the biggest health danger posed by a deep fried turkey is not ingesting it...it's in preparing it. Take precautions.
