Live Well::Spring Detox Cleanse Day 25

By beverly  |  Posted in , , ,   |  April 29th, 2010

We're on Day 25 of Dr. Craig Koniver's Spring Detox Cleanse. I actually think I could make this my lifestyle with only a few tweaks. Of course we will continue to drink Body Ami twice daily. I must admit that I do miss the occasional glass of red wine or bubbly. I also learned that although I enjoy jasmine green tea, I miss my daily coffee. I'll be back to shade grown, organic decaf coffee in the future (in moderation, of course). We're hooked on raw honey and gluten free hot cereal. Those will be a staple in our household.

Eat Well::Be Well

By beverly  |  Posted in , , ,   |  March 24th, 2010

With all the talk about calories on menus, the overwhelming % of obesity, and a growing consciousness for eating the right foods, I want to offer simple ways to reduce caloric intake and improve wellness.

A very simple way to get more nutritious meals is to substitute rice for pasta or potatoes. Rice bran can help cut cholesterol and lower blood sugar. It is also rich in disease-fighting compounds and fiber. Be sure to chose whole-grain rice. Some options in addition to brown rice are black japonica, red rice, brown basmati which have more fiber and flavor.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Are Linked to Longevity

By beverly  |  Posted in , , , ,   |  January 20th, 2010

New research suggests the fatty acids may possess an even more fundamental benefit: Heart patients with high omega-3 intake had relatively longer "telomeres," which are stretches of DNA whose length correlates with longevity. Read the full article here:

Omega 3::New Study

By beverly  |  Posted in , , ,   |  September 15th, 2009

Omega 3 has become popular for its ability to reduce the risk of heart disease. An article in today's Personal Journal section of the WSJ, discussed worldwide scientific studies of Omega 3's potential for treating other serious conditions including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy and rheumatoid arthritis. This seems logical since it's main benefit is to reduce inflammation.
More research is needed,  but the scientists believe that the results of the studies will provide insight that can help develop new medicines to treat disease.
